Currently Ireland is midway in #ScienceWeek:
Science Week refers to series of science-related events for the general public which are held in a specific countries during a designated week of the year. The aim of such science weeks is to engage and inspire people of all ages with science, engineering and technology.
Yesterday I went to an excellent talk at IT Sligo by Cara Augustenborg on the Climate & Biodiversity emergency and one of the key elements of combatting this crisis is through refurbishing our exiting housing stock in order to reduce fuel bills (and thereby CO2 emissions).
As architects and Passive House Designers we have been undertaking several retrofitting projects of this type and with the recent changes to the Building Regulations in terms of thermal efficiency (nZEB) we feel that we will be undertaking more in the future.
Below are a couple of examples where we have repurposed and redesigned the layout; some with extensions, some without where retrofitting methods have included:
• External insulation & mono-couche render
• Triple glazed windows
• MHVR systems (typically in existing properties we implement decentralised systems)
• Thermal bridging reduction
• Airtightness procedures
• Heat pumps
• PV/Solar panels
And as Passive House Designers we can undertake a full PHPP and obtain Certification of your retrofit project as an EnerPHit Passivhaus (Passive House) project. Click HERE for more information Passive House EnerPHit
